Jaden has connected.
Brian:
lemme know when yer all loaded and
ready
Jaden:
I am loaded but nowhere near ready
Brian:
Artyom cooper goes to sleep in the
same night as he slew the priests of Nerull. Any feelings he has
over the dirty deed are known only to him.
Brian:
As you sleep, however, you have a
strange dream...
Brian:
You stand in an empty plain. Above you
floats a man. He wears a fine cloak, but his face is a skull. He
takes little notice of you, seeming to survey something very far
away.
Brian:
Suddenly, something shoots into your
range of vision, and goes through the man's torso. He screams an
unearly cry, and blood pours from his wound.
Brian:
The blood forms glowing droplets,
which splash on your face, and you awaken.
Jaden:
Artyom wipes his face and blinks
Artyom Cooper:
Nothing like a strange dream to start
the day...
Jaden:
And so he gets up and goes out of
wherever he was sleeping
Brian:
It is early morning, but there is
sunlight over the forrest. Only one knight is up and about, as
well as a few of the woodland folk who decided to join your young
fort, gambling that it's a safer place than the scattered villages.
Jaden:
He's gonna climb up one of the
watchtowers and take a looksie at that body he sliced in the
shoulder yesterday
Artyom Cooper:
Huh
Jaden:
He looks down at the black shortsword
Artyom Cooper:
What did you do?
Jaden:
He's gonna wait for an answer
Jaden:
At least until someone else talks to
him
Brian:
eventually, a militia senses your
confusion source, and comes to talk to you
militia:
It was the mittle of da night, m'lord.
militia:
We didn't see em leaving until it was
too late.
Artyom Cooper:
They got up and walked off?
Artyom Cooper:
Rose from the dead I presume?
militia:
Aye, like all the others.
Artyom Cooper:
Interesting
Artyom Cooper:
So maybe it's not the swords after
all...
militia:
What swords?
Artyom Cooper:
Nothing you should concern yourself
with
militia:
Aye m'lord
Jaden:
He turns away, walks off to be alone,
then looks at the sword on his hip
Artyom Cooper:
So what do you do?
Artyom Cooper:
Hm...
Jaden:
He's now just waiting on the watchtower
militia:
I'm... I'm a hunter sir.
Artyom Cooper:
I see
militia:
I'm scared, m'lord.
Artyom Cooper:
Why's that?
militia:
I've seen old friend of mine, good
hounds, all becoming them.
militia:
How long until they get you an me?
Artyom Cooper:
They won't get us
Artyom Cooper:
Do you see this fort?
militia:
Aye.
Artyom Cooper:
Do you see the thick dirt walls?
Artyom Cooper:
Do you know why they call this Fort
Dirtyom?
Artyom Cooper:
It is because of my contribution
Artyom Cooper:
These walls
Artyom Cooper:
I've raised the dirt over them to make
them stronger
Artyom Cooper:
With the power I wield in the name of
the king and in the name of our lord, you have nothing to fear
militia:
Aye, m'lord.
Brian:
he heads back to his post, and
pretends to do work
Jaden:
Artyom gazes into the distance,
thinking about how much BS he just spewed
Brian:
A shepard comes in, brining in many
goats in the event of a seige, and news that the dead will be here
by sunset. They seem more organized than normal, forming full
battle lines, and making no effort to chase her son when he
accidentally stumbled on them.
Brian:
They come from the south.
Brian:
Are you up to anything before the
battle proper?
Jaden:
About how far are they away?
Brian:
the creatures walk slow
Jaden:
And how well can I control the storms
summoned by nature magic?
Jaden:
If I were to summon say, a hurricane
or tornado or other storm with an eye, could I keep the eye
centered on this fort?
Brian:
that would be an int check, with DC =
10 +1 per 5 points you put into it.
Brian:
But I'm saying before you've put in at
least 50 points this storm doesn't have anything resembling an eye
Jaden:
So it'd be at least a DC 20
Brian:
yeah, but you can just try to hover
bad rain over them if you so desire
Jaden:
Yeah, I'll just hover some rain over
them
Jaden:
And is there any other check?
Jaden:
I know it's 10 per storm, but would
there be any extra mana due to time, etc.?
Brian:
I'm going to say the storms wear out
after about two hours
Jaden:
So it's one hour to get it started,
and then it lasts for two?
Jaden:
And we have 6 hours
Jaden:
I'm going to summon 3 storms over the
course of the last 3 hours
Jaden:
The first 3 hours I'll spend
orgainizing the troops and planning with Eldati
Brian:
The knights seem to be ready to guard
the gate, but the militia and Eldati don't really seem to have
much of a battle plan
Artyom Cooper:
Eldati, I know from personal
experience that you are a great healer
Artyom Cooper:
Could you assist the knights?
Artyom Cooper:
They are our first line of defence at
the gate, if they are wounded and fall, it is the militia that
must take up arms and fight
Artyom Cooper:
I would rather that not be necessary
Eldati:
I would like them on the walls in case
the undead try to climb. The few knights here are too few to even
cover a fort of this size.
Eldati:
My issue with taking the front is if I
should fall. The chainmail you see on me is all I plan to wear for
the fight, and nothing demoralizes like seeing your leader die.
Save perhaps for your death.
Eldati:
Don't die, please?
Artyom Cooper:
Oh, I have no such plans
Artyom Cooper:
After all
Artyom Cooper:
None of those that die on our side
will die
Eldati:
Between you and me, I don't want to
think about that.
Artyom Cooper:
Can you mark the ground around here as
holy?
Artyom Cooper:
I've seen priests do so in the past
Artyom Cooper:
It may assist us
Eldati:
I was already planning to.
Artyom Cooper:
One last thing
Artyom Cooper:
The militia will watch all walls
except the south
Artyom Cooper:
And some will reinforce the knights at
the gate should they fall
Artyom Cooper:
I'll be on the south wall
Eldati:
Alone?
Artyom Cooper:
If I happen to start a lightning storm
too large
Artyom Cooper:
It would be best not to have those
that can be harmed in the way
Eldati:
Didn't I just tell you NOT to die?
Artyom Cooper:
Did you hear the tales of my exploits
in Glenswood?
Artyom Cooper:
That I could not be touched by the
skeletons?
Eldati:
Sure, but do you think I'm dumb enough
to belive them?
Artyom Cooper:
You'd be dumb not to
Jaden:
He smiles more genuinely this time
Brian:
She returns the favor.
Eldati:
Look, I couldn't have gotten this far
without you. I don't know how much further I would get,
particularly with an army of the dead around me.
Eldati:
Do whatever it takes.
Jaden:
And with that Artyom walks off to
start up his magic mojo
Artyom Cooper:
Take care of the orders for me, will
you?
Eldati:
What?
Artyom Cooper:
For the militia and such
Eldati:
Of course.
Artyom Cooper:
It's in your hands
Jaden:
He's not looking back
Brian:
alright then. Magic tiem?
click here to skip to the end of the battle
Jaden:
3 rolls for 10 nature each?
Jaden:
Each one an hour apart
Brian:
enjoy being OP while it lasts
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 5 + 12 = 17
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 5 + 12 = 17
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 3 + 12 = 15
Jaden:
I happen to have gotten it
Brian:
Well, it rains alot on the dead. I
will let that count as giving them a -1
Jaden:
And you know what pairs well with wet
undead?
Jaden:
Lightning pairs well with wet undead
Brian:
I hope you weren't looking for a
conduction bonus.
Jaden:
They won't suspect it's magic at all
Jaden:
I should have burned the forest down
to improve visibility
Brian:
You now have a 100ft visibility
Brian:
honestly, I don't know where you guys
got all the wood without chopping trees down...
Jaden:
I bottomless pocketed it
Jaden:
Then we glued it together
Jaden:
That makes much more sense
Brian:
ok, so this is where we start our
battle
Brian:
Alright, so I'll explain these mass
combat rules as I go.
Brian:
First off, mass units only act once
every two turns, while individuals can still do stuff every turn,
and have initiative as normal. Obviously, 5 base init to start.
Brian:
we will start with an off turn for
units
Brian:
units are assumed to take up at least
the minimum, but no more than the maximum, radious as defined in
their details
Brian:
these units are arranged into one
continious line
Brian:
You are able to see a little bit of
the 1st zombies and the second skeletons
Brian:
Eldati isn't taking a turn, so it's
your turn
Jaden:
2 x 10 mana, 1x10 arcana
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 1 + 12 = 13
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 10 + 12 = 22
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 12 + 12 = 24
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1\ => Invalid expression: 1d6 - 1\.
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 2 - 1 = 1
Brian:
you failed to fail
Brian:
alright, that turn?
Brian:
Alright, new round, and units go after
characters, so your turn again
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 20 + 12 = 32
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 11 + 12 = 23
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 19 + 12 = 31
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 6 - 1 = 5
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 2 - 1 = 1
Jaden:
He wants them to get just a bit closer
Jaden:
What are the radii looking like?
Brian:
so they are 125-250ft in radious
Jaden:
So are the zombies and skeletons
clambering at the walls or all scrunched up together?
Brian:
they are all scruned up together. The
closest are still about 100ft out
Brian:
actually, 200. They are still pretty
dense
Jaden:
And they aren't really fast enough to
get closer all of a sudden by expanding the radius?
Brian:
For now, the idea is that units are
assumed to be making good decisions, so that if they planned to
hit the wall they were dashing to get in place in advance, so the
outer radious is the "attack" distance. This may look like units
moving faster than max allowed, but if a unit decides to rush for
whatever region, the fastest dashers would get up in time.
Brian:
Also, aproximations, and a new system
Brian:
Alright, your turn again
Jaden:
Time to bring on the power
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 4 + 12 = 16
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 19 + 12 = 31
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 17 + 12 = 29
Jaden:
I've only got a 100 ft of good line of
sight?
Brian:
into the edge of the woods. You can
see the middle of the line at this point
Brian:
ok, and your turn again
Jaden:
I can see about here, right?
Jaden:
Could I cast something to there?
Brian:
I honestly don't know a good way to
calculate how dense they are, though...
Jaden:
1x 10 arcana and then 2x 10 mana then
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 17 + 12 = 29
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 18 + 12 = 30
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 9 + 12 = 21
Brian:
besides actually dividing by pi and
square rooting
Jaden:
It should be a decent chunk either way
Jaden:
And with my last 2 init
Jaden:
I summon some more lightning
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 8 + 12 = 20
Brian:
The nearest skelitons are about 80ft
from the wall. They are actaully pretty far out of the woods at
this point
Brian:
ohh, and your turns again
Jaden:
40 lightning, 40 mana and 20 arcana
are going into this spell
Jaden:
I'd like to cast it just about where I
saw them first in the forest
Jaden:
It'll have a 200 ft radius
Jaden:
So, should i draw that?
Brian:
go ahead, but it looks to me like it
would get about 60 of each kind
Brian:
but the trees are going to be blocking
shots, so let's say it's 100ft rad
Brian:
ok, so it's hitting about 40 of each
Jaden:
That was not the right number of radius
Jaden:
I don't know how to do this
Brian:
those radious tools only go up to a
max normally
Brian:
wait, looks like you go tit
Brian:
either way, 80 rolls to hit, with an
average of +2 to HAC because half have cover
Jaden:
Though that's the smaller one
Jaden:
And I should do this en masse how?
* Brian rolls: 100d20s12 => 39
Brian:
39 rolls were 12 or higher
Jaden:
And for modifiers with that?
Jaden:
I've got a plus 1 to hit
Brian:
so you need 40 rolls against HAC 9,
and 40 rolls against HAC 11. Just subtract the bonus from the DC
* Jaden rolls: 40d20s11 => 21
* Jaden rolls: 40d20s9 => 22
Jaden:
Oh yeah, damage huh?
Brian:
so the skels have HAC of 10 and 14
damage to die
Brian:
for a DC 24 to auto kill
Jaden:
So, look for ones?
Brian:
zombies have 11 and 22, for 33
Brian:
actually, I think I did calculations
on this and wrote it down, but yeah, just check for ones for both
* Jaden rolls: 21d20s20 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 22d20s20 => 0
Jaden:
1 1 on the hac 11 folks
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 3 - 1 = 2
* Brian rolls: 21 * 14 => 21 * 14 = 294
* Brian rolls: 22 * 22 => 22 * 22 = 484
Brian:
ok, damage recorded
Brian:
Obviously, they don't run away.
Brian:
Do you remember if it was their turn
or not?
Brian:
i.e., if this was a turn they moved on?
Jaden:
Let me scroll up and check
Jaden:
No, it's still my turn, and they'd
move after my next turn
Brian:
alright then, you get another turn.
Jaden:
I've not ended this one yet
Jaden:
I'ves till got 11 init to find out
what I do
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 6 + 12 = 18
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 10 + 12 = 22
Jaden:
And then he ends this turn
Jaden:
And now he's got another turn
Jaden:
To figure out what to do
Brian:
I mean, you should probably do things
on that turn too...
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 17 + 12 = 29
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 2 + 12 = 14
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 14 + 12 = 26
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 6 + 12 = 18
Artyom Cooper:
Get ready
Artyom Cooper:
They're nearing us
Brian:
The first skellys are now starting to
climb the wall. each turn I roll a d6. On a 6 one is over.
* Brian rolls: 1d6 => 1
Jaden:
Let's get this thing going again
Jaden:
3 lightning then casting it
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 5 + 12 = 17
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 18 + 12 = 30
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 8 + 12 = 20
Jaden:
I'll be casting it in the clearing
Jaden:
using 9 arcana, 20 mana, and 40
lightning
Brian:
that is assumed to have most of the
2nd skellys in it
Jaden:
Let me find my center real quick
Jaden:
Can I put a token down to show me
where my center will be?
Tokens dropped onto map 'Overmap' by player Jaden (Player)
Jaden:
Yes, it overlaps the wall I'm on
Jaden:
And a bit into the fort
Brian:
the wall provides cover to everyone in
the fort, save you
Jaden:
I'm not gonna hit myself
Jaden:
Well, first for me
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 12 + 1 = 13
Jaden:
Would hit normally
Brian:
I'll say 30 skellys and 20 zombies
Jaden:
But doesnt hit a 63
Brian:
so -1 abjuration for you
* Jaden rolls: 30d20s11 => 12
* Jaden rolls: 20d20s9 => 12
Jaden:
Now looking for 1s
* Jaden rolls: 12d20s20 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 12d20s20 => 1
Jaden:
one on skellys one on zombies
* Jaden rolls: 1d6-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
* Jaden rolls: 1d6-1 => 3 - 1 = 2
Jaden:
but neither would be enough to stop
them from dying
Brian:
you have another turn, then they go
again
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 6 + 12 = 18
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 15 + 12 = 27
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 14 + 12 = 26
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 4 + 12 = 16
Jaden:
I really should just look for ones at
this point
* Brian rolls: 1d6 => 6
Brian:
so one is on the tower next to you,
while more are coming into the fort, over the undefended wall.
Brian:
The amount in the fort is irrellivent,
but the frontline is 11 wide
Brian:
so now we do combat between militia
and the undead
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.55)*(5)*11 => (75 + 37) / 100 * 0.55 * 5
* 11 = 33.8800
Brian:
33 damage on the undead
Jaden:
When you said more complicated math
for a battle system i didnt expect calculus
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.3)*(3.2)*11 => (75 + 14) / 100 * 0.3 *
3.2 * 11 = 9.3984
Brian:
There's no calc in this.
Brian:
You have to take one integral to get
these numbers, but it's an integral of a linear function
Jaden:
I'm just doing percentages over here
Brian:
and then this guy goes at you
Jaden:
So that when the undead do make it
over the wall they're only a percent of what they once were
* Brian rolls: 1d20-2 => 16 - 2 = 14
Brian:
does that make you lose abs
Jaden:
I only have 48 abs now
Jaden:
My magic is ripped
Eldati:
Knights, get to the front!
Brian:
Eldati will now be taking a turn after
you
Jaden:
He's going to ignore it
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 3 + 12 = 15
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 20 + 12 = 32
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 4 + 12 = 16
Brian:
was the last one for fun?
Brian:
you declared two channels, and rolled
three
Jaden:
I declared two manas
Jaden:
so I said another of that
Jaden:
I forgot what mana vs arcana did for a
second
Jaden:
Which could have done great things to
my spell
Jaden:
Super long range, very short burst
Brian:
I'm going to say 30 skellys
Brian:
I'm totally pulling these number out
of my ass
Brian:
also, it hits your wall buddy, and you
Jaden:
Roll for wall buddy
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 6 + 1 = 7
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 5 + 1 = 6
Brian:
missed even your abs
Jaden:
Sorry, should have declared that first
Jaden:
Okay, 30 skels and ? zombies?
Brian:
Ehh, I'll give you 20 of those
Jaden:
30 skels at 11 and 20 zombies at 9,
correct?
Jaden:
This is like a dinner party
Jaden:
but with more lightning
Jaden:
and less reservations
Jaden:
Both meanings of that word
Brian:
well what are your dinner parties
normally like?
* Jaden rolls: 20d20s9 => 13
* Jaden rolls: 13d20s20 => 0
* Jaden rolls: 30d20s11 => 19
* Jaden rolls: 19d20s20 => 2
Jaden:
first one that got a 1
* Jaden rolls: 1d6-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
* Jaden rolls: 1d6-1 => 3 - 1 = 2
Brian:
over half of those guys be ded
Artyom Cooper:
Keep up the good work everyone, we can
do it together!
Jaden:
He sounds bored? sarcastic?
Jaden:
You're not sure over the sound of
skeletons clacking
* Brian rolls: 1d20+2 => 11 + 2 = 13
Jaden:
I imagine skeletons clack
Jaden:
those are my abs, right?
Brian:
eldati is healing, actually
Brian:
now the skelly goes for your abs
Brian:
and since you don't have a defending
weapons... DOUBLE ABS!!!
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 8 - 1 = 7
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
Jaden:
roll one more for last round
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 9 - 1 = 8
skelly:
Abs...too powerful...
Jaden:
Artyom shakes his head, almost pitying
the skeleton
Brian:
alright then, you guys get another
turn...
Jaden:
dont stop a good thing
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 14 + 12 = 26
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 6 + 12 = 18
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 2 + 12 = 14
Brian:
you will fail one of these one of
these days...
Jaden:
but failed to fail
Brian:
so Eldati doesn't bother to heal
again, because the militia have only one damage between them
Jaden:
Also I have failed and succeeded to
fail before
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 11 - 1 = 10
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 18 - 1 = 17
Brian:
hah! hit your abs once
Jaden:
Artyom's HAC is now only a lowly 59
Brian:
ok, now it's units' turn
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.3)*(3.2)*11 => (75 + 23) / 100 * 0.3 *
3.2 * 11 = 10.3488
Jaden:
Militia hittin em hard
Brian:
that was hits on militia, actually
Jaden:
or were those skeletons?
Jaden:
Artyom's got bigger armies to fight
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.7)*(8.45)*5 => (75 + 8) / 100 * 0.7 *
8.45 * 5 = 24.54725
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.45)*(5)*6 => (75 + 13) / 100 * 0.45 * 5
* 6 = 11.8800
Brian:
the 35 wounds on the undead
Jaden:
Nice job army boys
Jaden:
You're doing the Lord's work
Brian:
then ya'll turns again
Jaden:
only 3x10 lightning
* Jaden rolls: 3d20s20 => 0
Brian:
skelly actually gets to attack twice!
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 2 - 1 = 1
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 13 - 1 = 12
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 18 - 1 = 17
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
* Brian rolls: 1d20+2 => 14 + 2 = 16
Brian:
and Eldati is healbot
Jaden:
I want to play like Rocky or something
for this skeleton
Jaden:
Something motivational
Jaden:
okay, second turn for me?
* Jaden rolls: 2d20s20 => 0
Jaden:
40 lightning, 20 mana, 9 arcana again
Brian:
ehh, 20 skellys, 20 zombies
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 20 + 1 = 21
Brian:
The skelitons are starting to thin out
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 -1 => 6 - 1 = 5
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 -1 => 1 - 1 = 0
Jaden:
i was scared for a bit
Jaden:
and one for my skelly boyfriend
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 17 + 1 = 18
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 41 => 13 + 41 = 54
Jaden:
does that kill him?
Brian:
NO! HE IS SUPER yesh
Jaden:
and now for the 20/20
* Jaden rolls: 20d20s11 => 11
* Jaden rolls: 11d20s20 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 2 - 1 = 1
Jaden:
11 dead of the 11 hac
Jaden:
so skellys i think
* Jaden rolls: 20d20s9 => 13
* Jaden rolls: 13d20s20 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 6 - 1 = 5
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 5 - 1 = 4
Brian:
24 to kill I wanna say
Brian:
alrighty, so undead turn
Brian:
the flanks actually run at this point
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.3)*(3.2)*11 => (75 + 48) / 100 * 0.3 *
3.2 * 11 = 12.9888
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.7)*(8.45)*5 => (75 + 3) / 100 * 0.7 *
8.45 * 5 = 23.06850
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.45)*(5)*6 => (75 + 47) / 100 * 0.45 * 5
* 6 = 16.4700
* Brian rolls: 107/14 => 107 / 14 = 7.642857142857142857142857142857143
Brian:
there are now 29 of these guys left
Brian:
and it is your turn
Jaden:
if this skelly next to me is a new one
Jaden:
he has higher init
Brian:
he won't have time to use it all
Jaden:
2x10 mana and 2x10 lightning
* Jaden rolls: 4d20s20 => 0
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 4 - 1 = 3
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 13 - 1 = 12
* Brian rolls: 1d20-1 => 11 - 1 = 10
* Brian rolls: 1d20+2 => 5 + 2 = 7
Brian:
and Eldati manages to lose test of
faith
Jaden:
eldati gets distracted by how much
lightning there is
Brian:
and next characters turn
Jaden:
I imagine she's not too used to combat
like this
* Jaden rolls: 2d20s20 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 5 - 1 = 4
* Jaden rolls: 1d4 => 4
Jaden:
hes now slightly more sadistic
Brian:
welcome to the wonderful world of
being slightly uglier
Jaden:
thus making him less charming
Jaden:
(mental stat, not physical)
Brian:
be lucky I haven't made you guys roll
all the diplo checks I should have been
Jaden:
So you're telling me i cant diplo this
skeleton to not attack me anymore?
Jaden:
one more try for 10 lightning
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 +12 => 20 + 12 = 32
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 1 - 1 = 0
Jaden:
and 9 arcana 20 mana 40 lightning
Brian:
alright, well at this point only 10
skeletons are outside the wall
Jaden:
and the one next to me
Jaden:
and skels are 11, right?
Brian:
ehh, I'll give you 8
* Jaden rolls: 10d20s11 => 5
* Jaden rolls: 8d20s9 => 3
Jaden:
and now for damage
* Jaden rolls: 5d20s20 => 0
* Jaden rolls: 3d20s20 => 0
Jaden:
3 dead zombies, half dead skeletons
Jaden:
half of the skeletons that could be
more dead are now more dead
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 18 + 1 = 19
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 12 + 1 = 13
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 41 => 4 + 41 = 45
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.3)*(3.2)*11 => (75 + 22) / 100 * 0.3 *
3.2 * 11 = 10.2432
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.7)*(8.45)*5 => (75 + 23) / 100 * 0.7 *
8.45 * 5 = 28.98350
* Brian rolls: (75+1d50)/100*(0.45)*(5)*6 => (75 + 30) / 100 * 0.45 * 5
* 6 = 14.1750
Brian:
21 are still alive
Brian:
one of whom is on the tower, all of
the rest of whom are in the fort now
Jaden:
so, could i cast an area abjuration
spell on my friends here?
Jaden:
for temporary healing?
Brian:
sure, but if you hit the skeletons it
would give them temp HP too
Jaden:
where's the skeletons?
Brian:
so what are ya castin?
Jaden:
thoughts right now
Jaden:
maybe a frost spell
Brian:
nothing, just thinking
Jaden:
okay, summoning 3 mana
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 20 + 12 = 32
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 14 + 12 = 26
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 12 => 19 + 12 = 31
Jaden:
3 mana 3 frost 4 arcana 10 lightning
Brian:
so you made the ground icy, and zapped
something
Brian:
well first roll to see if you killed
them all and it doesn't even matter
* Jaden rolls: 3d20s11 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 11 => 5 + 11 = 16
Brian:
alright, an actuall wound
Brian:
the damage has been tallied
Jaden:
and then theres the issue of the dex
saves for those in that icy spot
Brian:
yeah, but the frontline is static...
Jaden:
when the frontline dies and the new
ones move up
Jaden:
the ground'll stay icy for 3 turns
Jaden:
you said 21 skellys
Jaden:
would there be any others in my circle?
Brian:
the other 9 are somewhere in the back,
so let's say you got three more
* Jaden rolls: 3d20s11 => 1
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 11 => 15 + 11 = 26
* Brian rolls: 69+(170/14) => 69 + 170 / 14 =
81.14285714285714285714285714285714
Jaden:
plus this one up here with me
Brian:
that counts as one of the 19
Jaden:
I though he was special
Brian:
I'm all for calling it a victory at
this point. These ones will fight to the last, covering the others
as they flee.
Brian:
And I assume you will be cautious with
the spells so as to avoid friendly fire, which means the militia
will have to slowly bash the last few up
Brian:
might be another hour and a half to a
foregone conclusion
Jaden:
I was going to just walk around and
zap the last ones
Jaden:
i didnt have much else to do
Jaden:
no real need for more large spells
Jaden:
via touch by the way
Brian:
roll to summon energy 10 more times
and we got a deal?
* Jaden rolls: 10d20s20 => 1
Brian:
The only important point is if you
hurt yourself
* Jaden rolls: 1d6 - 1 => 2 - 1 = 1
Brian:
do you run off into the woods after
the others?
Jaden:
And I tell the others to let them go
Jaden:
It's too dangerous to follow
TLDR Artyom does mad magic, undead get wrecked, DM rethinks game balance.
Sir Vilrays:
The battle is won! Praise be to the
chosen one!
Jaden:
Artyom steps down from the wall,
slightly less charming
Jaden:
(His +0 bonus goes to +0)
Artyom Cooper:
Friends, yeomen, countrymen
Artyom Cooper:
We have won the battle!
Brian:
A great chear comes up from the crowd
Artyom Cooper:
Huzzah!
militia:
I'm sorry I didn't belive in ya.
militia:
I didn't know the gods were so good.
Artyom Cooper:
Aye, our lord protects us well
Eldati:
Nerul may try to undo us, but there is
one god who will always defend the living. When you return to your
homes, spread the word that there is a light in the darkness.
Eldati:
Now let's burn these bodies just in
case some return again.
Brian:
Unless you say anything, they proceed
to do so.
Jaden:
No, Artyom's going to go see if Eldati
needs anything from him
Jaden:
Or the knight captain or something
Jaden:
But if not he's going to go engage in
the vice of sleep
Jaden:
and not really a mental healing thing
Jaden:
Just wanted to call sleep a vice
Eldati:
Take your rest. It is well-earned.
Jaden:
I imagine summoning lightning and abs
are pretty tiring
Artyom Cooper:
Goodnight
Brian:
you could use sleeping as a 0 vice and
try to recover if you want to go for it
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 2 => 2 + 2 = 4
Brian:
roll a disc check verses DC 0
Brian:
to see if you take soul damage
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 2 => 19 + 2 = 21
Jaden:
If only they were reversed
Jaden:
What a relaxing sleep that would have
been
Jaden:
In fact it would have healed his
previous damage as well
Jaden:
Also, for the record, he slept for an
unusually long time
Jaden:
like 10-12 hours or something
Jaden:
I'd imagine that'd have to be done to
call it a vice
Jaden:
Over indulgence in sleep
Brian:
yeah, that's fair. Kind of a stretch
anyway.
Jaden:
I'm surprised you allowed it
Brian:
Do you have time to go a little
longer? I had a tad more in the session planned
Jaden:
Oh yeah, he can wake up and do tomorrow
Brian:
Cool. Well it's a couple days before
the next event occurs
Jaden:
That's how its a vice
Jaden:
he actually sleeps for a few days
Brian:
without warning, Sir Finli, a young
knight of the Order of Blood, comes into Ft. Dirtyom.
Jaden:
and dreams of skeletons bouncing off
of abs, tentacles being his friend, and lightning pouring down
from the sky
Jaden:
I assume Artyom'd be notified and come
from his tent or something
Jaden:
However this fort is arranged
Brian:
you just happen to be out and about or
taking a piss or something
Jaden:
Taking a piss out of someone actually
Jaden:
I thinks the phrase
Jaden:
Hes being less charming than usual,
thats what
Sir Finli:
Are...are you Artyom?
Artyom Cooper:
I am indeed
Sir Finli:
It is...an honor to meet you sir.
Artyom Cooper:
And who may you be?
Sir Finli:
Me?
Artyom Cooper:
Yes
Sir Finli:
I'm squire...sir Finli. I'm a new
knight.
Artyom Cooper:
Congratulations then
Artyom Cooper:
Always good to see a new up and coming
knight
Sir Finli:
I came here to report to you that
there's been a report.
Artyom Cooper:
Oh, thank you
Artyom Cooper:
Would you know what this report says?
Sir Finli:
Of nerul Worshippers collecting in
Ensiph village.
Artyom Cooper:
Ah
Artyom Cooper:
Perfect
Sir Finli:
I went to investigate, but it seemed
like too much for me.
Artyom Cooper:
And so you came to me
Sir Finli:
aye
Artyom Cooper:
Eldati!
Artyom Cooper:
Where are you?
Artyom Cooper:
I've got news!
Eldati:
What?
Artyom Cooper:
There's some Nerul guys in Ensiph
Eldati:
How many?
Jaden:
Artyom looks at Finli
Artyom Cooper:
How many?
Sir Finli:
They say there's a lot. That the
locals are protecting them.
Sir Finli:
Like it's an army or something.
Eldati:
Are there no loyal subjects at all in
Ensiph?
Sir Finli:
A villager came to me. He was loyal.
Eldati:
Did you get any other information?
Sir Finli:
No, your holiness.
Eldati:
Very well, thanks for your report. If
you need supplies, we can provide them.
Sir Finli:
Thank you, my lady.
Artyom Cooper:
Well?
Artyom Cooper:
What do ya think?
Eldati:
Sounds serious.
Eldati:
They don't learn, do they?
Artyom Cooper:
Could be a trap
Artyom Cooper:
If that 'loyal' citizen happened to be
a supporter of Nerul
Artyom Cooper:
We could have faulty information
Artyom Cooper:
But then again, it would still be
serious and worth at least investigating ourselves
Eldati:
You want to go personally?
Artyom Cooper:
Hm
Artyom Cooper:
I do, but if those armies return
Artyom Cooper:
I don't know how you'd hold out here
Artyom Cooper:
Do we know their movements over the
past few days?
Eldati:
No. It's suprisingly hard to spot such
an army. Nobody wants to go near it, and the dead are silent and
make no fires.
Eldati:
But we know they aren't very nearby.
Eldati:
We can send out riders to nearby
lords, and see who can provide knights. And villagers to build
this place up into a proper castle to defend ourselves.
Eldati:
It's about time the south had a castle.
Artyom Cooper:
I suppose it won't be Fort Dirtyom for
much longer
Artyom Cooper:
Once it has stone on the walls
Eldati:
I promise to retain the legacy.
Artyom Cooper:
No, we need a proper name for a proper
castle
Eldati:
I don't suppose I can count on you
again?
Artyom Cooper:
Castle Horizon maybe
Artyom Cooper:
It's a castle in the south
Artyom Cooper:
On the horizon of the kingdom as it
stretches down
Artyom Cooper:
And the horizon is where the sun rises
Artyom Cooper:
It would be the rise of a new era of
light in the south
Eldati:
But what about when we push into the
goblin lands and clease the land for the races of men to settle?
Eldati:
When this place is the heartland of
the elven empire?
Artyom Cooper:
Then it will still be the horizon
Artyom Cooper:
The horizon stretches all around
Artyom Cooper:
If this castle is not on the horizon,
its in the center of it
Eldati:
Hmm, I'm still not sure I like it. As
long as you aren't planning on dieing in Ensiph though, I guess
you'll have time to win me over.
Artyom Cooper:
Now feel free to move it around to
make it sound better, perhaps Horizon Castle, or Castle of the
Horizon
Artyom Cooper:
Or Castle Horatio
Artyom Cooper:
I like the name Horatio
Eldati:
Just go.
Artyom Cooper:
Okay
Artyom Cooper:
I leave the naming to you, my good lady
Eldati:
And I the killing to you.
Jaden:
He grins a slightly malicious smile
Artyom Cooper:
It does happen to be a specialty of
mine, doesnt it?
Eldati:
Our lord be praised.
Artyom Cooper:
Praise be
Brian:
alright, so do you take anyone with
you, or set off solo?
Jaden:
He gathers his things, makes sure he
knows which way to go, and walks a short way off from the fort
alone
Brian:
alright, you are not a short way off
from the fort.
Jaden:
Is there any way to make invisibility
last longer?
Jaden:
so its just 15 minutes for me per cast
Jaden:
He's going to start travelling and
cast invisibility if he sees any undead
* Brian rolls: 1d20 => 17
Jaden:
Any other encounters while travelling,
or do I make it?
Brian:
no, a few more days and you are there.
The upside to an army of the dead rampaging the lands is that not
much is left to bother you in the woods
Brian:
And soon you come into town
Brian:
The people here seem uneasy, but not
particularly at you.
Jaden:
Time to visit the inn then
Brian:
There is an elf as the inkeep (rare
for the woodlands), and two patrons day-drinking
Brian:
they both look pretty pathetic
Jaden:
Isn't there a traditonal elf greeting
of some sort?
Brian:
Not anything universal, unless I
established one...
Jaden:
I remember you said something in one
of the first things about some elven gesture of respect or
something
Jaden:
Don't remember exactly what it was
Jaden:
but I think it was one of the things
in court
Brian:
well, you do that.
Brian:
I'll fix it in post
Artyom Cooper:
Greetings, Innkeeper
Artyom Cooper:
I need a room for a few nights
Inkeep:
We're already full. Father Mayron
might have something for you though, if you don't mind crowds.
Brian:
ohh, how are you dressed, btw?
Jaden:
It's my main cloak
Jaden:
Not to be confused with my 3 spare
cloaks
Jaden:
He'd go try to find Father Mayron
Jaden:
He's ignoring the pathetic day drinkers
Brian:
It turns out there is no Mayron, but
ther is a Maryn, and you can't tell the difference because in
speech my terrible spelling matters not
Jaden:
It's the middle ages
Jaden:
There's no standardized text yet
Jaden:
Its spelled differently but pronounced
the same
Brian:
He is in the local church of Palor,
putting things in boxes.
Artyom Cooper:
I was told I may be able to find a
place to stay here, Father
Father Maryn:
There's already a lot of places taken
here, but I think we can find you a good heart in this town, buddy.
Father Maryn:
First, Tell me more about yourself.
Where you from?
Artyom Cooper:
The South
Jaden:
He's not lying though
Jaden:
what roll is that?
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 3 + 1 = 4
Brian:
from this far in the south, Tinsboro
is clearly in the capital region.
Jaden:
I was coming form Ft Dirtyom though
Jaden:
Which is more southern
Father Maryn:
Hey, it's alright, you're safe here.
Father Maryn:
What village? Did they already attack
it?
Artyom Cooper:
Is it though?
Artyom Cooper:
Why does everyone look so uneasy in
this town?
Father Maryn:
Well, honestly, there's a lot of souls
like you. Lost, they just saw dead people try to kill them, and
they don't belive Palor is going to see us out of this.
Father Maryn:
And there's a ton of mouths to feed
that we didn't have before, and frankly weren't ready for.
Father Maryn:
I'm sure you're not feeling chill
right now...
Artyom Cooper:
Well...
Artyom Cooper:
I hear that the church of Nerul were
behind these attacks
Artyom Cooper:
Are there priests of their kind here?
Father Maryn:
No, none of them.
Father Maryn:
I think they're too busy hiding from
people.
Father Maryn:
And the dead. I don't know many
Nerulians around here, but if they don't get hurt by the dead, I
don't think anyone told them.
Artyom Cooper:
Okay, thank you Father
Father Maryn:
Hey.
Brian:
he steps up and puts a hand on your
shoulder.
Father Maryn:
You sure we can afford to be afraid of
fellow living people right now?
Father Maryn:
Maybe a priest is gonna walk into town
tomorrow. I hope you would be cool with that.
Artyom Cooper:
The dead have brought many deaths
Artyom Cooper:
And those that die sometimes rise
again in a vicious cycle
Artyom Cooper:
If one group of priests happens to be
supporting this, I'd prefer if I they stayed far away from me
Father Maryn:
Come on man, think about it. You've
probably met Nerulians and never even noticed. They're people,
just like us. You wanna kill people?
Artyom Cooper:
No, I want to keep people from dying
and then killing others after they die
Father Maryn:
Look, I just don't want you starting
trouble in town, ok? Cause then people are going to come to me,
and I'm gonna have to do stuff I don't want to do. There's already
enough going on around here.
Father Maryn:
Promise me?
Artyom Cooper:
I won't start trouble, but if those
that worship Nerul don't allow me to leave their presence, I can't
promise that
Artyom Cooper:
I'd much rather avoid them than fight
Artyom Cooper:
But should they not let me walk away
Artyom Cooper:
I can't promise anything
Brian:
His almost unaturally cool expression
breaks into a furrowed brow, then he sighs.
Father Maryn:
Alright, I'll ask around. See if
anyone can take you in for the night.
Father Maryn:
We might need to get folks together to
make a new shelter soon.
Brian:
he heads out of the temple.
Brian:
do you do anything?
Jaden:
You said there were boxes?
Jaden:
What was he putting in the boxes?
Brian:
many are already closed, many are
empty, but two are half-packed.
Brian:
One contains a few wooden soldier
toys, a stained dress, and a piece of parchment.
Brian:
The other contains two loaves of
bread, a holy symbol of Kord, a holy symbol of Nerul, and a dagger.
Jaden:
I'd like to cast 10 abs
Jaden:
and wait for him to come back
* Jaden rolls: 2d20s20 => 0
Brian:
ok, where are you in the temple when
he returns
Brian:
I have a hunch it's gonna matter
Jaden:
He's going to sit away from the box
Jaden:
Looking like he's just waiting for him
to return
Brian:
alright then. Maryn opens the door and
walks on in.
Artyom Cooper:
Well?
Artyom Cooper:
Find anyone?
Father Maryn:
I took some talking to, but I finally
convinced someone.
Father Maryn:
They're a family of coopers. They have
space in the old warehouse if they give up on some have-finished
barrels and leave them outside.
Artyom Cooper:
Coopers?
Artyom Cooper:
I'm a cooper
Father Maryn:
You are?
Artyom Cooper:
Yes
Father Maryn:
Well then you know the kind of
sacrifice they are making for you. I hope you are nice to them.
Artyom Cooper:
Yes, I do, thank you Father
Jaden:
Has Father Maryn come away from the
door at all?
Brian:
no, he's just kind of standing there.
Artyom Cooper:
Father, one more thing
Artyom Cooper:
If I may ask
Father Maryn:
Yeah?
Artyom Cooper:
Why would a church of Palor have a
holy symbol of Kord and a holy symbol of Nerul in a box?
Father Maryn:
You've been looking in the boxes?
Artyom Cooper:
They were open
Father Maryn:
They came from two sisters who are
sheltering here.
Brian:
he goes to the box, and picks up each
symbol
Father Maryn:
One a Kordite, one a Nerullian. They
were on a trip from Tearscreek, and they asked me to ship these
back along with some supplies they head, in case the strife we
face comes to them too.
Father Maryn:
I doubt I'll find someone brave enough
to make the trek, but it gives them hope to have given it over to
me.
Artyom Cooper:
Ah, Tearscreek?
Father Maryn:
I thought you said you were from the
south?
Artyom Cooper:
Only recently
Artyom Cooper:
I was travelling there
Artyom Cooper:
And then the dead attacked
Brian:
yeah, I'm gonna say so
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 10 + 1 = 11
Father Maryn:
Where were you from before?
Artyom Cooper:
I came from the capital before that
Father Maryn:
Wow. A long journey.
Father Maryn:
And a pretty rare one when the undead
AREN'T trying to kill us all...
Artyom Cooper:
I'm getting older, the pressures to
marry were getting stronger at home, and I was still just a cooper
Artyom Cooper:
I wanted to travel a bit
Artyom Cooper:
Picked a hell of a time to do it
* Jaden rolls: 1d20 + 1 => 10 + 1 = 11
Father Maryn:
I'd say
Father Maryn:
Well all I can promise is that we will
do our best. Out in the woodlands we look after each other.
Artyom Cooper:
Then perhaps its time I set aside my
problems with the Nerullians
Father Maryn:
There's never a bad time to make
peace, man.
Artyom Cooper:
Would you mind telling me where the
sisters are?
Artyom Cooper:
I'd like to talk to them
Artyom Cooper:
If it goes well
Artyom Cooper:
I'll take the supplies for you
Father Maryn:
Know what? I'll talk to em the next
time I see the two. Check up on me every now and again, ok?
Artyom Cooper:
Sure thing
Jaden:
He's going to ask where the coopers are
Brian:
He takes you to them. The
half-finished barrels are already outside and awaiting to be
sacrificed to the rain.
Brian:
I'm probably going to tap out here.
